An Easygoing Approach to Success

Growing up in Jones, Oklahoma — about 30 minutes east of Oklahoma City — Tim Rasmussen was exposed to an entrepreneurial lifestyle. His family owned a video and photo production company, and some of Tim’s earliest memories are from his days working in the family business.

“When I was in middle school, we would drive to Dallas after school on Friday and I’d help my parents sell pictures, then I'd go back to school on Monday. That’s how I was raised,” Tim reflects.

The exposure to his parents’ entrepreneurial lifestyle allowed Tim to develop determination as a young man. He understood that if he wanted something in life, he was going to have to work for it. As a young person, Tim dreamed of owning hotels. While he’s not sure where the idea came from, it was something he was always curious about. He took an interest in houses, too, often using them as the subject of his sketches. These early curiosities foreshadowed Tim’s future real estate career, but the path to becoming a REALTOR® had some hurdles to overcome. Tim headed to the University of Central Oklahoma, where he studied accounting. But, as he remembers it, he was still searching for a professional path. Accounting never quite felt like the right fit.

“I was a little lost, so I studied basic accounting and got a business background, but college wasn’t a great fit for me. I’d always been fascinated with houses and real estate. So I thought it’d be a great idea to try out real estate,” Tim explains.

Tim launched his real estate career in 2000, shortly after leaving school. It was unusual at the time for such a young person to sell real estate, but he intuitively felt he was in the right place. As it turns out, he was right.

“There weren’t a lot of young REALTORS®, but I had the drive to get out and do it,” Tim explains. “I reached out to the REALTOR® who sold my parents their house. She was a RE/MAX agent and part owner of a brokerage, and she took me on to work under her. She gave me a wealth of knowledge, I mentored her day-to-day, and was in her office for many years until I felt comfortable enough to go out on my own.”

All told, Tim spent nine years with RE/MAX. By the end of his tenure, he had built his business to become one of Oklahoma’s best. He spent the next seven years with Keller Williams before moving to Metro First Realty in 2016.

Today, Tim leads Rasmussen Homes, a team of four agents in total. The group was Metro First Realty’s top team in transactions and volume in 2022 and 2023.

“It’s been 24 years now,” Tim says proudly. “Real estate definitely has its ups and downs, but I'm doing very well. I have strong referrals and a reputable business. That’s something I can be really proud of.”

Tim prides himself on his combination of hard work and an easygoing spirit. He aspires to give his clients standout service while making the process fun, enjoyable, and stress-free.

As he looks ahead, Tim imagines many more years of real estate success. He aspires to one day open his own brokerage, allowing him to support more agents while stepping back from showing homes regularly. But for now, he’s most focused on the present moment.

“I would like to be known as a happy, giving, successful person, and also a great father, partner, and family member who loves giving to others. That’s what’s most important to me.”

Beyond the Office

When he’s not working, you’ll find Tim with his partner, Sean, and his 16-year-old daughter, Presley. He enjoys traveling, networking, frequenting restaurants and charity events, and spending time with those he loves.
