“When I do something, I'm 100%,” Brett Boone begins. “I don't like to be casual and passive. I like to be active and driven — all-in.”

Brett’s all-in nature has long been one of his defining characteristics. Earlier in life, he struggled to channel that energy positively, getting caught up in addiction and escapism. But after getting sober and rededicating his energy to his real estate business, Brett has turned his life around. He’s now able to channel his passion and drive as a positive force in the world.

Today, he leads the Brett Boone Real Estate Team, one of Oklahoma’s highest-producing real estate teams. Although he’s already achieved a level of success few have, Brett hasn’t stopped pursuing greatness. Since we last sat down with him three years ago, he’s taken his team independent and started an investment arm of the business while continuing to lead the local real estate sales rankings.

The Next Step in His Evolution

Brett’s days begin bright and early; he’s usually up and at the office by 5 a.m. From the moment he wakes, he’s ready to go. That’s what it takes to lead one of Oklahoma’s top teams. In 2021, Brett’s team of five agents and six staff members closed an impressive 305 homes for over $72 million. He closed 96 homes for nearly $26 million personally.

It was a great year, but Brett continues to push forward. He’s now spending much of his energy developing his investment business. Brett and his team are buying long- and short-term rental properties as well as flipping homes. He’s getting involved in larger deals, too — duplexes, multi-family units, apartment complexes and land development.

Although Brett just started the investment business early in 2022, it already has solid momentum. Brett plans to end the year with 50 new investment properties, then continue to double that number until he reaches 1,000 new investments.

Creating Freedom

Brett’s vision for his future is becoming clearer. His intention in investing in real estate is to create a retirement plan for himself and his wife, Faye.

“The ‘why’ is all about freedom,” Brett says. “It’s to be able to give my wife the life she wants — to be able to travel the world. We want to build a house in Thailand, where my wife is from and where her family is. And we need the freedom to be able to take a long time off work to do that. Real estate investing is the vehicle that gets us there.”

Brett, however, isn’t willing to sacrifice his way of life. So, he’s working to replace his active income with an equally strong passive income strategy.

“And when I do something, I'm 100%. So if I'm going to do passive retirement, I'm going to do it quickly,” Brett reminds us. “This is a new angle our team has. It’s something I'm working on daily, and it's getting me into bigger projects — land development, multi-family, complexes, large package single-family deals. So our business has opened wide to another underground world that's maybe even bigger than the retail side of things.”

Staying Aggressive

Although he’s now been a successful REALTOR® for 15 years, Brett has no plans of slowing down. He plans to keep pushing limits, stretching boundaries and reaching for the stars.

“I like big, aggressive goals. It keeps me sharp, expands my mind and helps me think differently,” he says. “It helps me have the velocity and speed to create. I have to be on the ball.”

Although the real estate market is shifting, Brett doesn’t hold any fear about the current conditions. Rather, he’s quite excited for the market to balance out and for buyers to regain some negotiating power.

“I am looking forward to this market. I couldn't be happier,” Brett says frankly. “I've been doing this since 2008, so I've seen the ‘08 crash, oil crashes, inflation and COVID-19. Every time the market goes down, my business goes up. … Our business hasn’t slowed down a drop because we continue to lead generate. That's always been the backbone of my business. We don't wait for the phone to ring. We pick it up and call people. We generate leads. We've done it for 15 years, and we do it every day.

“So, no, I'm not worried about the market. I think there's going to be more opportunities.”

As the market turns, Brett reminds his agents to stick to the basics. To him, that means educating his clients rather than trying to sell something. He firmly believes the best approach is to put all the information on the table and allow clients to make wise financial decisions for their families.

As Brett looks ahead, he is optimistic about his business. He will continue to grow the investment side of things while slowly stepping back from retail sales.

“The retail side will always be here, but I'll start slowly coming out of the retail side to do larger deals like apartment complexes, land deals and packaged units. That’s what I'm specializing in now. That’s what I’m really excited about.”
