In 1907, the world was a far different place than the one we live in today. The Wright brothers had taken their first flight just four years prior, Henry Ford’s Model T was still a year away from being introduced publicly, and the First World War hadn’t yet unfolded. Oklahoma was nearly unrecognizable, too. Oklahoma had just received its statehood, and the population of Oklahoma City was just over 32,000—a far cry from today’s booming city.

Yet, if we go all the way back to 1907, one thing remains the same: the presence of The Oklahoma City Abstract & Title Co. as one of Oklahoma’s hallmark companies. The company was founded that year by Louis J.A. Vollers and has since outrun two world wars, the Great Depression, and countless global changes.

“In the early 1900s, after the land run, every county in the state of Oklahoma awarded a certain allotment of abstract bonds to people who were around,” current President Amber Dixon offers. “Louis was awarded one of those bonds, and four others were given out. That led us to where we are today. We’re the only independent wholly owned abstract company that's been in the same family in Oklahoma County since those abstract certificates were given out.”

The Oklahoma City Abstract & Title Co. is now a five-generation family business. Amber is Louis’s great-granddaughter, and now a fifth generation has stepped into the business, including Cooper Reid, Anthony Reid, and Tiffany Stovall.

So, how has The Oklahoma City Abstract & Title Co. stood the test of time? Amber says it’s due to its commitment to its employees, clients, and community. It has continually invested back into the company and its employees, ensuring stability and an unmatched record of success.

We sat down with President Amber Dixon and Business Development leader Cooper Reid to hear about their stories and what keeps them in the family business.

Meet the Team: Amber Dixon

Amber followed her mother, Connie (CR) Dixon, into the title business. Although she originally went to school to become a teacher, she began working as a receptionist for The Oklahoma City Abstract & Title Co. in 1990. Over the years, her roles shifted. She became a closer and eventually moved into a corporate role. Today, she is the company’s President.

“I love the people,” Amber smiles. “Whenever I go up front and see a customer, I take the time to visit with them. To me, every real estate transaction is unique. That's how all of our closers feel. There is not just a number; there are people behind the transaction. Coming to a solution to problems is the most rewarding part of this business.”

Meet the Team: Cooper Reid

Cooper followed his mom, Shelli Dixon-Reid, and dad, Mitch Reid, into the title business. He began with the company at 21, so although he’s only 32, he already has 11 years of experience under his belt. Cooper has worked his way up from a role in the storage department to abstracting and now to business development.

“I’m working my way up and learning as much as I can along the way,” Cooper says. “For me, the relationships are what matter most.”

Leaving a Legacy

Oklahoma City Abstract & Title Co. has a long history of success and community relations, and it intends to continue building upon that legacy. It is continually willing to go the extra mile to get the job done, and that will continue to serve it in the decades to come.

“Our legacy is to continue growing for the next 100 years. Tiffany, Anthony, and I all feel the same way. We want to continue this legacy for our customers and the community,” Cooper says.

The mission of our company is for Cooper Reid, Anthony Reid, and Tiffany Stovall, along with our unsurpassed employees, to continue this legacy,” Amber adds. “We aren’t going anywhere.”

Oklahoma City Abstract & Title Co. was founded in 1907. As a bonded abstract company with four generations of family ownership, the company has maintained its heritage as a leader and driving force in the real estate and title industry. For more information, visit https://okcabstract.com.
